Frequently asked questions
The same perfume can smell very different depending on who wears it and when it is applied to the skin. A fragrance develops and smells different over time depending on the composition of notes. It also depends on the perfume's structure. Perfumes consist of top notes, heart notes, and base notes.
Our perfumes remain free from the 26 well-known allergens, which are considered to be the cause of the most common allergic reactions. But in addition, we can attribute a minimum of 46 additional allergens that ærlig also does not contain, so you can still trust what is sprayed on your skin.
We have always been proud to offer perfumes that are created with care and quality in mind. In accordance with the European Parliament's decision that an additional 56 allergenic substances must be declared within a few years, we have chosen to do so now, even though some are below the declaration threshold. Regarding essential oils, almost all are affected by this directive – it's a great many of the flower oils, all citrus oils, and oriental oils. There are very few without these ingredients.
We have chosen to include detailed information: Percentage indication of the declarable substances in our perfumes. This means you can see exactly how much of each substance is present in our products. We believe this information will help you make even more informed choices about our perfumes.
Allergy-friendly fragrances are different from regular fragrances. Allergy-friendly fragrances are free from most essential oils, which makes them generally more special. Therefore, you may also find that some allergy-friendly fragrances don't last as long as regular fragrances, because you have to skip the use of ingredients that help create the base notes that last a long time. That's why it's a long process to develop fragrances for ærlig, as we specifically want the perfumes to last as long as possible and smell fantastic.
Perfumes are sensitive, and the very best thing for a perfume is to be stored at room temperature in the dark or in its box, so it's not exposed to sunlight. Storing it in the bathroom, which is perhaps the most common, is not so good for the perfume's longevity. The temperature in the room fluctuates when you take a bath, and it can become humid and very warm.
Here are our top tips for longer lasting perfume:
- Moisturize your skin first with cream – perfume adheres better to moisturized skin
- Apply to pulse points: wrists, behind the jawline, armpits, behind knees, and inner elbows
- Avoid rubbing the surfaces together after application
- Spray perfume in your hair – it adheres and lasts longer
- Apply two layers for extra longevity
ærlig perfumes are dermatologically tested, which means the perfumes have undergone a special procedure to ensure they do not irritate the skin.
The test is conducted by an independent analysis institute and is the consumer's guarantee that the approved products are classified as skin-friendly.
However, it is not possible to completely rule out cases of skin reactions due to individual sensitivity to one or more other ingredients.
In some cases, a perfume causes contact eczema if the skin is simultaneously exposed to light. ærlig has had all perfumes tested and confirmed free from phototoxicity.
